Etymology

'tūnby the dīc,' i.e. the Devil's Dyke (supra 34). Valoynes from the family of Robert de Valoines (Farrer 43). For Saxtone and Camoys , v. Saxon Street and Camois Hall infra 128. “Called 'Wood ' to make a distinction from ye other Ditton (Fen Ditton infra 142) beinge well wooded and in the wood country as wee call it” (c. 1640Layer ).
