Etymology

The second element is hlāw, 'tumulus,' and the first is, therefore, likely to be a personal name rather than OE  tadde , tāde , 'toad,' which has been suggested as a possibility. No personal name Tāda is recorded but Ekwall (DEPN s. n .) suggests that it may have existed side by side with Tāta . Hence 'Tāda 's tumulus.' Cf. Tadley (Ha), (æt ) Tadanleage , Taddanleage 909 BCS 625. For Pincote , v. infra .
