Etymology

Beacon Fm is Bacon Fm c. 1825 O.S. So called from The Beacons , two barrows at the “east end of 4–mile race-course” (Fox 327). These barrows are probably to be identified with Tweynhowes 1279 RH (on the bounds of Swaffham Prior), v. haugr .
