Etymology

Freckney Pond (local). Cf. Fragenhou , Fragenham 1219 FF, Frakenho 1263 Ipm, 1279 RH, c. 1300ElyM , 1418Ct , Frakeho 13th, 1303Waltham , Frakners c. 1840TA . The second element is clearly hōh, 'hill-spur.'The first is probably a personal name. Cf, Fræccændun (KCD 673) in Wootton St Lawrence (Ha) which survives in the name of a field called Frog Down (Grundy, Saxon Land Charters of Hampshire 315) and Freckenham (Sf) in DEPN. Fræcca is probably a name which is ultimately of nickname origin from OE  fr c , 'greedy, voracious, bold' (cf. Holthausen s. n .).
