Etymology

'Pappa 's enclosure,' v. worþ and cf. the neighbouring Papley Grove in Eltisley (supra 159), both probably named from the same man.Papworth Everard , so called from Evrard de Beche (1155–75 Farrer 97), was also called Parva , Over , Upper and Petri (Peres ) from the dedication of the church. Papworth St Agnes , so called not from a St Agnes, but from Agnes de Papewurda (1160 P), is also called Magna and Olde . The series of forms with medial m is due to confusion with Pampisford supra 111.
