Mettle Hill (6″) is Motloweyhil 1319Extent , Metlow (e )hill (e )1439Christ 's , 1594–1606Ct , Metlyehyll , 1569 ib., Metlehill 1578 ib., Mutly Hill 1664Rental , Mettly Hill 1735 Meldreth. 'Assembly-hill,' (ge)mōt, hlāw . For the development of o to e , cf. Denton (PN Nth 146), DB Dodintone . This was probably the meeting-place of Armingford Hundred. For other 'moot-lows' v. Thriplow and Whittlesford Hundreds infra 82, 92.
