Etymology

Limlow Hill. Cf. Limlowfeld 14thWymond , Limbloe Hill 1821 Baker, Limlow or Limbury Hill 1853 AnctC. Possibly 'lime-tree hill or barrow,' cf. Limberrow (PN Wo 215) and Limber (L), Lindbeorhge c. 1067 ASWills, Linberga 1086 DB, Limbergia 12th Danelaw. The late Limbury suggests the existence of an alternative name actually identical with these, v. lind , hlāw , beorh . The barrow here was destroyed in 1888 or 1892 (Fox 194, 329). Elsewhere in the parish we have Twymelowe 1339Deed . 'Two barrows,' cf. Twemlow (Ch), Tuamlawe 13th BM.
