Etymology

'Cattle stream,' v. hrȳðer , rīþ . A hamlet with a chapel of ease formerly stood on Ashwell Street near the junction of the parishes of Ashwell (Herts) and Guilden and Steeple Morden. “Houses and chapel, all gone” (c. 1635 Layer). “The bare site is now known as Ruddery end” (Layer 103).
