Etymology

King's Hedges is Alborough al. Kinges Headge 1588Terr , Kinges Hedges , Allbrow 1656 ib., and is probably to be identified with terr ' Thome Albourgh 1328Bodl . There is an earthwork here of doubtful age (v. Fox 178, AnctC 14–15) near Akeman Street supra 18, which is perhaps to be identified with Thistilburg 1277Bodl , Systelburth (sic)13th Merton, Yistilburg 1310Bodl , Thistilborw 1329 ib., Thistelborgh 1334 ib. 'burh overgrown with thistles.'
