Yeat (Fm)

Early-attested site in the Parish of Wotton Underwood

Etymology

This may possibly take its name from the old name of the R. Ray. In the Wotton charter (BCS 848) we have the phrase ut bi geht , 'out along Geht,' which certainly refers to this stream and gives us the old name of the river on which Islip (O) stands, explaining the early forms for that name.
