Etymology

OE  cnæpp, with rounding of the æ to o = [ɔ] under the influence of the labial p , or an adaptation of ME  knoppe , 'rounded protuberance.' Nup End stands on just such a site to the north-west of Wingrave. The modern form shows partial unrounding.
