Etymology

There can be little doubt that behind this name lies the Tilleberie of DB, though as noted above (s.n. Turville ), it is there given as the name of Turville manor. The first element is the pers. name Tilla , not actually found in OE , but cf. Tilli , and the numerous names in Til -, Tilluc . Hence, 'Tilla's burh.'
