Etymology

'The ham of Tir's people,' Tīr being a pet-form of one of the OE  names in Tīr -. The vowel has been shortened in the trisyllable. For the DB form, v. IPN 106. For the 1130 form v. Introd. xxvi. This early development of initial tr is strongly against any defence of the d in the DB form on the score that the p.n. might be derived from an OE  pers. name in Tīd -.
