Chequers (Fm)

Early-attested site in the Parish of Stokenchurch

Etymology

This farm like Chequers in Ellesborough takes its name from a family deriving its name from their employment in the Exchequer. In 1279 this holding is referred to when we find Laurence de Scaccario holding six virgates of land in Stokenchurch (RH ii. 786).
