Etymology

'Ceolmund's cottage(s).' The persistent a of the first four forms is curious, but occurs elsewhere in early forms of place- names undoubtedly derived from personal names in Ceol -. Cf. Calmundelei , the Domesday form of Cholmondeley (Ch). v. cot .Cf. Chelmscote (Wa), Cholmondeston (Ch).
