Putnam Place

Early-attested site in the Parish of Penn

Etymology

This is manorial in origin and takes its name from a family deriving from Puttenham (Herts). In the Close Roll for 1340 we read that Thos. de la Hay held the manor of Puttenham (Herts) and a messuage and carucate of land in la Penne with reversion to Roger, son and heir of Roger of Puttenham.
