Historical Forms

  • Pratchell 1607 Terr

Etymology

If these identifications are correct it is clear that the modern form is corrupt. The two old forms show that we have a compound of hyll and the old pers. name Prat (t ) found in Ailmarus Prat in Lincs (Bardney Cart. 212 b ). This must be a nickname connected with OE  prætt , 'trick.'
