Etymology

This takes its name from the manor for which Lipscomb (iv. 517) quotes forms Mansfield al, Magnesfield dated 1589.The g is a mistake for y for this manor was the property of the Me (y )nevil family. Seval de Meynevil is associated with it in 1249 (FF ) and we have a John de Menevill in connexion with Iver in 1327 (Cl).
