Etymology

There can be little doubt of the identity of these two places, whatever the exact relationship of the two names. Courns Wood lies on ground sloping steeply down to the valley called North Dean, and ora as the source of the ME suffix would suit well.The first element would seem to be corn but in what sense is quite uncertain.
