Etymology

Were it not for the forms Hedleshore and Heddenesora one would suggest that the first element in this name was the gen. sg. of the pers. name Hædde , but they suggest a pers. name *Hæddel a dimin. of this name with n for l in the second form under AN influence. The second is ofer. Hedsor stands on a cliff well above the river.
