Etymology

OE  fearn-ham , 'fern-homestead,' v. fearn , ham . Verdon, from the Verdon family who were tenants here in DB. 'Royal' because it was held by the grand serjeanty of supporting the king's right arm at his coronation. riall represents the AN  form reial .
