Etymology

Botolph Claydon is a name compounded of botl and Claydon , this particular Claydon having presumably been distinguished by some prominent 'building.' Whether the Botyl Well (6″) is named from the botl or does really take its name from St Botolph and was sacred to his name, it is impossible to say.
