Etymology

v. dræg . There can certainly be no question of a water- meaning for dræg here and the exact sense must remain undetermined. The n in the DB form is probably an error, cf. Langrave for Grove and Pincelestorn for Pitstone supra . 'North' in contrast to Drayton Beauchamp, 'Monacorum' because the monks of Woburn claimed certain rights of overlordship here.Already in DB the manor was held by Ralf Passaquam , the second name being a translation of OFr  Passe l 'ewe . The vowel of the final syllable has been assimilated to that of the common -low suffix in p.n. For the ars , v. Introd. xxiii.
