Etymology

OE  Bydan-wielle , 'Byda's spring,' v. wielle . A well is marked here on the 6″ map. The genitival s is corrupt. The name Byda , which seems early to have fallen out of use, occurs again in Biddenham (Beds) and Bidford (Wa).
