Etymology

v. beretun . Hartshorn was perhaps the name of a separate hamlet, ultimately united to that of Barton. Why so-called it is difficult to say, but it may be noted that the name is found more than once in early records as the name of a messuage, and may refer to some adornment of the house. It is found as a p.n. in Hartshorne (Db).
