Etymology

Furzewick Fm and Furzewick Down, Foteswycke 1278 Ipm, Foteswik 1278 Cl, Voteswik '1284Ass (p), Fussick 1658Throckmorton , Furswick Farm 1761 Rocque. 'Fōt's dairy-farm', v. wīc . The pers.n. is not recorded in OE , but occurs as a nickname in DB: Goduin ' fot was the tenant TRE of the K manor later known as Foots Cray (PN K 18–19).Cf. also BdHu 114, s. n. Fotsey , where it is suggested that there was an OE name corresponding to the ON  nickname Fótr , which latter is probably found in Foston (Lei, Nf, L, YN, YE) and Fosdyke (L).
