Etymology

Shurlock Row, 1761 Rocque, 1846 Snare, Southlake Row 1790 Pride; cf. Surlock Street Ground 1839TA . This and South Lake Ho (Southlake 1839TA , 1846 Snare) are named from a place called Suthelak 1242–3 Fees, Suthelak '1260–1FF , Suthlake 1347 Pat.'South of the stream', v. sūðan , lacu . The stream is Ruscombe Lake (128). For the development to Shur-, cf. Surly Hall (20–1) and Circourt (Pt 2).
