Lendham, Lewdehammesweylet 1462Bodl , (way called) Lewdehammesweylete 1469ib , Lewdham Close , Field and Ground 1843TA .OE  weg -(ge )lǣte 'road-junction', added to the gen. of a p.n. Lewdehamm 'Lēofede's hamm'; v. (ge)lǣt, and Feilitzen 322 for the pers.n. Lendham is near a cross-roads. The first el. may have been altered to avoid association with the word lewd .
