Foxcombe, Foxcombe Hill, (on ) foxhola cumbe 985 (c. 1240) KCD 1283, in the bounds of Wootton, Foxcomb -Hill 1711 Hearne, Fox Come Hill 1761 Rocque. Originally 'valley of fox's earths', v. cumb , first el. the gen.pl. of fox-hol. For the dropping of the middle el. in a triple compound, cf. Blackford Mill Wo 156.
