Etymology

Tyle Mill, 1790 Pride, Tyl (l )e Mylles 1601Dep , Tile Mill 1761 Rocque, Tile Mill , Tile Mill Hatch 1846 Snare, probably from a tiled roof, cf. Slate Mill O 415. In VCH iii 308 this is identified with (molendinum de ) Russiford , Russieford ', Rissieford '12th (l.12th) ReadingC , (molendinum de ) Russiford , Risiford 13thib . Other references to Russeford in the Reading Cartularies make it clear that it was near Widemead supra . Possibly 'rush island', v. risc , (ī)eg, to which ford has been added. Professor Löfvenberg prefers the adj. rushy (not recorded till 1382), and points to the f.n. La Russipudel in Burghfield 211.
