Woodspeen, Wodespene 1275 Clet passim with variant spelling Wodespen '; Wode Spene 1325 Cl, Wodespeyne 1316 Ipm, Woodspene 1316 FA, Woodyspene 1547LRMB . The prefix is wudu 'wood', added to distinguish this settlement from the main village, which was known as Church Spene (v. 266).
