Early-attested site in the Parish of Shellingford

Etymology

Lyde Copse: the bounds of Shellingford in 931 (c. 1200) BCS 684 run on hlydan . and lang hlydan , this being the stream which flows through the copse, and which forms the W. boundary of the parish.This is a common stream-name, Hlȳde 'the loud one', which occurs in the same OE form in the bounds of Cuddesdon O (O 452, 485).
