Etymology

Kentwood Fm, Kentwood Grove, cf. Chanetwda 1130–5 (14th) ReadingC (3 ) (p), Kenetwida c. 1180 A. H. Cooke, The Early History of Mapledurham (OxRecSoc 7) (p), Kenetewuda 1188et seq P, Kenetwude 1198 ib, Kenetwode c. 1265 (c. 1450) Godstow (p), 1275–6 RH, Kentwode 1380 Gor (p), Kentwood Pidle 17thPubLib (Clayton ), Kent Wood Grove , Kentwood Common 1761 Rocque, Kentwood Common and Farm 1790 Pride. 'Wood by the R. Kennet', v. wudu and 11–12 for the river-name. Kentwood Fm and Grove are actually about two miles north of the Kennet, and it must be supposed that a considerable area between that river and the Thames was known as 'Kennet wood'.
