Etymology

Probably 'riverside meadow infested by midges', v. mycg , hamm , but the second el. could be hām . The forms Mighala and Miggehal , 1156 and 1190 P, quoted in DEPN, probably refer to Midgehall W (W 275), as the owners are the monks of Fons Drogonis (Stanley Abbey) who owned the W place.
