Etymology

Dr von Feilitzen suggests a compound of ingtūn with a pers.n. *Bĕthere , and this is much more satisfactory than previous suggestions (pers.ns. Beornþrȳð , Beaduþrȳd ), for which v. DEPN. For the alternation between the type Bedretone , Betreton ' and such forms as Beteryngton ', Betrintuna cf. Alwalton BdHu 181, Tibberton Wo 170, Wolverton Bk 26–7.
