Long Spinney Copse and Round Spinney Copse, cf. (pasture in Kingston called) Le Espiney 1234–5FF , Le Spiney , Le Spyney , Le Spine 1241–2ib , a farm called Spinney 1778PubLib , Spinney Farm in Kingston Lisle and Uffington 1811ib . spinney , from OFr  espinai , is not independently evidenced before 1600 (NED), but has been noted in p.ns. from the 13th, cf. YE 331n.
