Etymology

In Hurley and VCH Burchetts Green is identified with Birchehurst Ed I Hurleyet freq with variant spellings Byrec (h )hurst , Birchurste , Burchehurst (e ), Byrchurst , Birchestre to 1491 Hurley. On the whole, however, it seems likely that this is a different name, from birce and hyrst 'wooded hill'.
