Etymology

v. bēce 2 'beech-tree', and hyll 'hill'. The parish was formed in 1868 out of the Berkshire portion of Stratfield Saye parish, the rest of which is in Ha (Kelly 39). DEPN gives a form from 1335 under this name, which actually refers to Beche in Aldworth (Pt 2).
