Etymology

Cholswell, 1761 Rocque, (to ) cealdenwulle n.d. (c. 1200) BCS 906, (to ) cealdan wylle , (of ) cealdan wylle 956 (c. 1200) ib 924, (on ) cealdan wyl , (of ) cealden wylle 985 (c. 1200) KCD 1283, Chaldewell 1247–8FF , 'cold stream', v. c(e)ald, w(i)ella, a common name, here appearing in its WSax form. BCS 906 is spurious, but the bounds may be somewhat earlier than those in BCS 924, v. Pt 3.
