Etymology

OE  Lytelingatūn , 'farm of Lytel's people.' v. ingatun in EPN 42. The same pers. name is found in Littleworth, Lillingstone (Bk), Littleton (Mx) and Litlington (C). Voicing of t to d before l is common in dialect and it is noteworthy that two of the counties in which Wright gives examples are Essex and Suffolk (FDG § 283).
