Etymology

OE  Wīgbealdestūn , 'farm of Wigbeald.' This common name enters also into Willington (Berks), Wobaston (St) and Whillington (He). The form Wilboldeston found once in the 13th cent. must be rejected as an error, for starting from an OE  pers. name Wilbeald it would be impossible to explain the long vowel in the first syllable of Wyboston.
