Warminster Hundred

Hundred in the County of Wiltshire

Historical Forms

  • Hundred de Warminister, Warministro, Warministre 1086 ExonDB

Etymology

See Warminster infra 157. The site of the meeting-place is unknown. There is a field called Moothill in Warminster TA , just south of Dirtley Wood on Warminster Down, and another Moothill in Bishopstrow TA , immediately south-east of Bigbury Wood. Both are high up on the Downs, about two miles from each other. Either or both may at some time have been the Hundred meeting-place.
