, Arneside (rake )1687BdyR , 1738Wyb , possibly ' eagle hillside ' ( v. earn , hēafod or sīde ) , but like Whelpside (infra ) on the same hill it could be from ON  sǽtr ' shieling, shed ' with the ON  pers.n. Arni ; remains of some old shelters exist here ; for rake ' sheep-walk ' v. hraca .
