Etymology

, perhaps ' woodland glade of the raven ' , v. hræfn , lēah ; cf. RavensdaleDb 597 ( Raunsdale Parke 1560 ) ; the two names should be taken together , and in view of the nature of the terrain we should rule out a pers. n. Hræfn ( Hrafn ) as in Ravenstone Bk 12 , RavensdenBd 61 , Ravensthorp Nth 87 and Ravensworth YN 292 , though the phonology is the same .
