Etymology
Ekwall (DEPN) suggests 'tūnby a frog pool,' OE tādemere -tūn .This is not wholly convincing, but no alternative etymology can be offered. The -mær- of the earliest forms suggests (ge)mǣre 'boundary' rather than mere 'pool.'
