Etymology
'Crow-frequented pond', v. OE crāwe and mere 1 . Cromer grew in importance after the fall of Shipden (v. infra ). Cromer has also had its share of erosion and storms. Its development as a fashionable holiday resort belongs chiefly to Victorian times, especially the 1890s, according to Pevsner (120).
