Etymology

'The tūn of Æþelmǣr '. The first element is a well evidenced OE pers. name. The two spelling variants Almer - and Ailmer -, Aylmer - are evidenced with ME examples in Seltén II 30. Two of the DB spellings end with the ampersand, for which Schram writes -et .
