Etymology

, Pawdy farm 1925 Kelly, Paudy Lane, Pawdy Lane 1835 O , , 1877White , v. loge , , Pawdy rise 1925 Kell , v. rise ; all named from Paudy Lane which runs from Barrow upon Soar north - east by way of Seagrave parish to the Fosse Way and was a continuation south - westwards of the Roman road Margary 58a across the Wolds from Ermine Street . Perh . the lane was styled paued(e) , paved ' paved ' with reference to the original Roman road surface , but such a phonological development seems unlikely . Earlier forms are needed .
