Etymology

, on holan pyl 929 (11th) BCS 665, innan hola pyll 955–9 (12th)ib 936, Holpul 1378 Works, Hophills 1840TA ; the first form ( like the f.n. in TA 79 ) refers to the lower course of the stream ( grid 155 – 582885 ) near the Aust boundary , and the second to a point further east on the stream , but BCS 936 may have reversed the order of hola pyll and hwita gærstune ( White Garston infra ) and the two charter references to hola pyll would be identical ; ' hollow inlet or stream ' , v. hol 2 , pyll .
