  • Etton(e) 1086 DB

Etymology

The Ecton spellings might be justified on the analogy of names like Brotton from Brocton , etc. (cf. Speeton supra 104), but against the long series of Etton forms the c here is likely to be a misreading of t . The first element is probably a pers. name Ēata as suggested for Etton, PN Nth 234. v. tun .
